Context

SuDS mimic natural drainage, infiltrating and attenuating runoff and pollutants at source, slowing down and removing pollutants along pathways, and limiting the effect on receptors.
 

As well as dealing with everyday events, they can be designed to help manage design events, and more extreme events. They can also be made more flexible and adaptable to the potential effects of climate change and urbanisation while providing other wider benefits.
 

Retrofitting SuDS presents new opportunities and challenges for all stakeholders involved in the future of urban areas and it is being effectively delivered in some parts of the world today, including the UK.
