susdrain SuDS Awards 2024 open for entries!

Since 2018, susdrain has been celebrating outstanding SuDS projects and recognising SuDS Champions who are instrumental in delivering exceptional SuDS in the UK.

We are inviting submissions from community projects and the wider industry to showcase their outstanding, innovative and multi-beneficial SuDS schemes. 

SuDS are becoming a common feature of our landscape for managing surface water runoff, but they can do so much more. Our Awards will celebrate the schemes that demonstrate good practice and show the many ways in which SuDS improve our places and spaces for the benefit of communities and the environment.

This year, there 10 awards categories to choose from under four main themes:

• SuDS in new builds
• SuDS in communities
• Regeneration and retrofit SuDS
• Catchment based solutions

30 April 2024	Awards submission deadline
May 2024	Judging Shortlist announcement
26 June 2024	Awards ceremony

 

Awards categories

SuDS in new builds

1. New housing development – small (one to ten units)

Single house to small development with well thought out, good practice SuDS. Housing only or mixed-use accepted under this category. Construction completed after 1 January 2022.

2. New housing development – large (more than ten units)

Larger housing development with SuDS masterplanned from the earliest stages, demonstrating multi-beneficial SuDS (SuDS pillars principles and beyond). Housing only or mixed-use accepted under this category. Construction completed after 1 January 2022.

3. Early housing scheme – not yet completed

but with a firm commitment to deliver and maintain high quality SuDS. Showcasing the engagement process was undertaken will be key.

4. New commercial development (any scale)

Any type of commercial/industrial development, large or small, that highlights good practice SuDS including provision for their ongoing maintenance. Construction completed after 1 January 2022.

SuDS in communities

5. Community SuDS

Celebrating the work of communities in creating and/or managing good SuDS.

Regeneration and retrofit SuDS

6. Regeneration and retrofit – small scale (less than one hectare)

Showing how SuDS improve existing places and spaces. Retrofitting SuDS can be a challenge - describing innovative processes will be key.

7. Regeneration and retrofit – large scale (more than one hectare)

Showing how SuDS improve existing places and spaces. Retrofitting SuDS can be a challenge, describing innovative processes will be key.

8. New! Regeneration and retrofit – public buildings

A dedicated category for improving publicly owned buildings through SuDS (schools, hospitals, social housing, etc).

9. New! Regeneration and retrofit – private properties

We want to hear about SuDS measures within curtilage on private properties. Micro SuDS interventions: raingardens, rainwater harvesting, blue/green roofs, etc - small is beautiful!

Catchment based solutions

10. Catchment based SuDS solutions

Big picture, multiple and integrated surface water management solutions, at catchment scale.
