susdrain SuDS Awards 2022 open for entries!

CIRIA is delighted to announce that the susdrain SuDS Awards 2022 are now open for entries.

We are looking for submissions from outstanding SuDS projects across the UK.

Shortlisted and winning entries will be showcased on our susdrain website.

SuDS are becoming a common feature of our landscape for managing surface water runoff, but they can do so much more. Our Awards celebrate those schemes that demonstrate good practice and show the many ways in which SuDS improve our places and spaces for the benefit of communities and the environment.

We are particularly interested to hear:

  • How challenges have been overcome in order to deliver SuDS
  • What innovations have been used
  • About evidence of the multiple benefits SuDS have delivered

This year we have simplified the entry form and increased the number of Awards categories to reflect the growing SuDS community and the quantity of fantastic work being undertaken.

The number and quality of entries to our 2020 awards showed that SuDS competencies are increasing greatly and that good outcomes are achieved where SuDS are integrated with other aspects of the built environment and sustainable development for both new build and retrofitting. Entries shortlisted by our independent panel of judges were characterised by the linked themes:

  • Sound, holistic masterplanning
  • Place making
  • SuDS working alongside other policies driving sustainable development and other aspects shaping the built environment (such as improving the public realm and re-allocation of highway space e.g. to promote walking and cycling)

This year’s Awards also present the opportunity to nominate SuDS Champions – those who have gone ‘the extra mile’ to promote and deliver multi-beneficial SuDS.

More information, Entry Forms and Guidelines can be found HERE

2022 SuDS Champion Awards Categories

Implementing high quality SuDS can be challenging, from getting the right people on board, understanding the issues and constraints through to ensuring they are properly maintained. It is often through the hard work of an individual or dedicated team that good SuDS materialise. Who is your established SuDS Champion? Who is new to SuDS but doing amazing work? Do you know of a great team (professional or otherwise) who are making good SuDS happen? Why not recognise their hard work and nominate them for an award?

A.    Established SuDS professional

has been working with SuDS for five years or more

B.    SuDS Rising Star

has been working with SuDS for less than five years

C.    Outstanding SuDS team

have worked brilliantly as a team to inspire, inform and influence the delivery of multi-beneficial SuDS

A project/scheme SuDS Award winner will be chosen from each of the awards categories and there will also be an overall winner for the scheme that our independent panel of judges believe demonstrates the greatest achievement in delivering the four pillars of SuDS: water quality, water quantity, biodiversity and amenity.

The susdrain SuDS Champion nominees will be shortlisted by our panel of judges and a public vote will decide the winner in each category.
