Natural Flood Management guidance survey

There is growing interest in the application of Natural Flood Management (NFM) in the UK with some notable examples in Pickering, Belford and Stroud. There are numerous other projects around the country.

NFM needs to be technically robust and simple to deliver to have any significant impact on managing flood risk and deliver co-benefits.

CIRIA is developing good practice guidance on the design and delivery of NFM projects for use in the UK. The manual will be published late 2021 and is moving from scoping stage towards first draft. A survey has been developed to inform the drafting of the NFM manual.

We are interested in feedback on the outcomes, principles and design criteria for NFM, what factors lead to successful NFM delivery, guidance that is useful and areas where further guidance is needed. We’re also keen to obtain further case studies and images.

The survey will close on 26 October.
