Meet the 2025 susdrain SuDS Awards Champions!
The 2025 susdrain SuDS Champions Awards wrapped up in Bristol on 18 June, shining a spotlight on the people and projects making real change through sustainable drainage.
Taking home the Outstanding Team Award was the SuDS for Schools Partnership Blue Heart, led by East Sussex County Council. Their creative, community-first approach is helping schools and neighbourhoods tackle flood risk while creating greener, more engaging spaces.
In the individual categories, Ajharuddin Khan from AtkinsRéalis was named this year’s Rising Star, and Marcus Gayle from the London Borough of Lewisham picked up the Experienced Professional award. Both are championing SuDS in their own ways—bringing energy, insight and a strong sense of purpose to the sector.
A special moment came with the launch of the new Dr Louise Walker Award for Outstanding Contribution to SuDS, in memory of a much-loved and respected voice in the field. The first recipient was Dr Jacqueline Diaz-Nieto from The Environmental Protection Group, recognised for her leadership and dedication to making SuDS better for everyone.
CIRIA’s Adrien Baudrimont said it best: “This year’s champions are a fantastic mix of emerging talent and experienced professionals, all working to make drainage smarter, greener, and more sustainable.”
