Celebrating the susdrain SuDS Awards 2022 winners
The susdrain SuDS Awards 2022 reached a thrilling conclusion on 14th July with a ceremony at Arup’s Sheffield office (both in person and online). This year's winning and highly commended projects were announced together with the susdrain SuDS Champions 2022.
The susdrain SuDS Awards celebrate people and projects that help to move SuDS forward to their full potential of delivering a range of multiple benefits for our spaces and places. These benefits go beyond surface water management - to improve biodiversity, aesthetics, water quality and to help us tackle and live with the impacts of climate change.
susdrain’s independent panel of judges selected projects demonstrating innovation and excellence in SuDS. Our susdrain SuDS Champions were nominated by their peers and have been decided by public vote.
We are delighted to announce this year’s overall winner is London Borough of Enfield, for ‘Moore Brook Green Link’ – a project that demonstrates a range of SuDS features within a dense urban context. There were a range of issues to balance and this has been done using SuDS to provide attractive and healthy environments. There is a strong water quality focus which is becoming increasingly important in the UK, and the scheme is highly repeatable by other local authorities.
Congratulations to Enfield Council and their partners in the project Glendale, AH Nicholls and Sons Ltd. and Gristwood and Toms.
As well as showcasing projects, the SuDS Awards also recognise and celebrate Champions who go the extra mile to inspire, inform and influence others to get on board, share good practice and deliver SuDS. Winning the public poll in Rising Star category, our susdrain SuDS Champion is Josh Rutherford, Drainage Engineer at Atkins. Kevin Barton, Director – Bristol and Stroud at Robert Bray Associates, was announced winner of the Experienced Professional category and Slow the Flow (Calderdale) and West Wolds Slow the Flow won the Outstanding Team Award.
A special award was bestowed on Bronwyn Buntine for her Outstanding Contribution to SuDS. Bronwyn has championed SuDS and been a key part of the SuDS community for over twenty years and continues to support our work.
Louise Walker, susdrain’s senior research manager said:
