Bath Road, London

Where

Location

West London, Surrey

Description

This is the redevelopment of a former plating plant near Heathrow Airport. The soil is contaminated with heavy metals, and to prevent this from polluting the groundwater a semi-permeable bentonite barrier surrounds the site which allows water to percolate through but traps the heavy metals.

A sustainable drainage system of infiltration trenches and soakaways are used to dispose of surface water runoff, clean the water and recharge the groundwater underlying the site. To ensure that pollution is not leaving the site the ground water is monitered inside and outside the site.
