Ashton Green was a greenfield site to be developed with 3000 houses, retail developments, business areas, two schools, sports facilities and fitness centre, a library and public open spaces. 30% of the development is roofed or paved.
Thick clay soils mean that infiltration is difficult, but there will be swales, retention ponds, wetlands, and tanks for storing water for re-use.
